Prof Jurgen Neuberg
Professor Jurgen Neuberg has a degree in Physics from Karlsruhe University, Germany, PhD in Physics on ‘Earth Core Resonance’, worked on inversion of gravity data, on earth tides, and long wavelength features of the core-mantle boundary (CMB). Post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Colorado, Boulder, USA; seismological investigation of the lowermost mantle and the CMB. Lectureship at Gadjah Mada University, Yogya, Indonesia; Has been in Leeds since September 1991. Sabbaticals in New Zealand, La Reunion and Singapore.
Professor Neuberg is chairman of the IAVCEI/IASPEI joint commission on Volcano Seismology and an equivalent group of the European Seismological Commission. Since 1997 he has been involved in the monitoring efforts of Soufriere Hills volcano, Montserrat. Since 2003 he has been a member of the Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) to the Foreign and Commonwealth Office, which he has chaired since 2014.

Research interests
Current research interests focus on monitoring, modelling and interpretation of volcanic seismic and deformation signals. Funded by several NERC and European grants he has worked on volcanoes in Italy, Indonesia, New Zealand, Ecuador and Montserrat. He uses multi-parameter magma flow models, constrained by observations and combined with synthetic seismic signals in a wide frequency range, to develop source models for volcanic seismic signals and tremor which have been widely used by the volcanological community.
