Montserrat Air Quality Project

This pilot study aims to update Montserrat’s air quality data after two decades by installing 13 sensors across eight sites to monitor sulfur dioxide and particulate matter from natural and human sources. Supported by MVO and UK institutions, the network will operate for two years before assessing the need for long-term monitoring.

AVTIS – All-Weather Volcano Topography Imaging Sensor

For over 15 years, MVO and researchers from several UK universities have worked on AVTIS, a ground-based millimeter wavelength radar system. It helps monitor changes to the lava dome at Soufriere Hills volcano, even in cloudy conditions. The latest version, AVTIS3, at Windy Hill, provides continuous monitoring of the dome’s size and shape, offering updates on lava extrusion or dome collapses.
