Education and Outreach at MVO
For the MVO, prioritizing education and outreach is not just a commitment but a fundamental aspect of our mission. We recognize that effective communication is essential for enhancing resident safety and preventing complacency regarding volcanic eruptions.
Discover below how the MVO is spearheading educational efforts to promote safety and preparedness in the face of volcanic activity. Our diverse outreach programs engage residents, students, and stakeholders to foster a culture of awareness.
Volcano Vibes Radio Program
Through our monthly radio program on ZJB (95.5 or 88.3 FM), we deliver the latest updates, expert insights, and educational content about volcanic activity, reaching audiences across Montserrat and all over the world.
The program airs the first Friday of each month at 7:35pm.
Creative Writing Competition
Our annual Creative writing competition and other artistic endeavors allows residents to express their perspectives, creativity, and insights related to their volcanic experiences.
The Creative Writing competition is a staple of the Allioguana Festival of the Word (AFW) LitFest and calls for entries go out in September.
Special Events and Collaborations
From Science Week exhibitions to Career Days and public forums, we organize and participate in engaging events to facilitate dialogue, share experiences, and provide information about the science behind the volcano and how we monitor it.
Visits and Field Trips
Collaborating closely with schools, the community college, and government agencies, we deliver tailored sessions, field trips, and workshops to empower students with essential knowledge and skills for understanding and responding to volcanic hazards.
Educational Resources
Print resource materials are easily accessible at the MVO, ports of entry, and various agencies across the island, facilitating widespread dissemination of crucial information.

Social media platforms serve as vital channels for disseminating the latest information about the MVO and the Soufrière Hills Volcano.
