CDEMA Executive Director Visits Montserrat to Strengthen Disaster Resilience Partnerships
The Caribbean Disaster Emergency Management Agency (CDEMA) recently highlighted Executive Director Elizabeth Riley‘s high-level mission to Montserrat, underscoring the agency’s commitment to strengthening disaster risk management, resilience, and regional collaboration across the Caribbean.
During the visit, Ms. Riley paid courtesy calls on Governor Her Excellency Harriet Cross and Deputy Premier Honourable Veronica Dorsette-Hector, while also engaging with senior Government officials on national and regional priorities for resilience. Meetings were also held with representatives of the Montserrat Red Cross and the Royal Montserrat Police Service to discuss emergency response coordination and community preparedness.
A key component of the mission included a visit to the Disaster Management Coordination Agency (DMCA), where discussions focused on enhancing national disaster management systems and strengthening alignment with regional mechanisms.
Ms. Riley also visited the Montserrat Volcano Observatory (MVO), where she met with Director Dr. Graham Ryan and Seismic and Environmental Technician Venus Bass to learn more about the Observatory’s ongoing volcanic monitoring, research, and risk assessment activities.
According to CDEMA, the mission reflects the agency’s continued commitment to fostering strong national partnerships and advancing a coordinated, multi-hazard approach to resilience throughout the Caribbean region.
