MVO Partners in International Volcanic Research Project: Ex-X: Expecting the Unexpected
Montserrat Volcano Observatory (MVO) is proud to be a partner in Ex-X: Expecting the Unexpected, a major international research project led by the University of Bristol. The project aims to improve the detection and understanding of dangerous escalations in volcanic activity and includes work on Soufrière Hills Volcano as well as other volcanic systems in the Eastern Caribbean.
MVO was represented at the project’s initial workshop in Bristol on 12–13 January 2026 by Dr Adam Stinton, who participated in discussions and planning for the project’s research activities.
The Ex-X project brings together scientists from around the world to combine field monitoring, data analysis, and modelling to advance early warning and hazard understanding for communities living near active volcanoes.
