MVO Welcomes New Volcanologist, Dr. TiVonne Howe
December 2, 2025 Thiffanie Williams
The Montserrat Volcano Observatory (MVO) is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. TiVonne Howe as the organization’s newest Volcanologist. Dr. Howe joins the scientific team following the successful completion of her PhD, which explored volcanic gas behaviour and the role of carbon dioxide and water vapour in magma beneath volcanoes in the Lesser Antilles.
Dr. Howe’s research offers important insights into how volcanic gases are stored, transported, and released within magmatic systems; knowledge that directly supports improved monitoring and hazard assessment across the region. Her expertise will strengthen the MVO’s ongoing efforts to analyse volcanic activity, interpret monitoring data, and provide timely, evidence-based information to stakeholders and the public.
In her new role, Dr. Howe will contribute to the Observatory’s core programmes, including gas monitoring, geochemical analysis, research activities, and scientific reporting. She joins a multidisciplinary team dedicated to understanding the Soufrière Hills Volcano and supporting Montserrat’s preparedness and resilience.
The MVO looks forward to the contributions Dr. Howe will bring to the organisation and the wider Montserrat community.
Welcome to the team, Dr. Howe.
