MVO Celebrates New Remote Pilots After Intensive Training
The Montserrat Volcano Observatory is proud to announce that six of its team members have successfully completed the General Visual Line of Sight Certificate (GVC) training course and have received their Remote Pilot Certificates of Competence. The new Remote Pilots are Dr. Adam Stinton, Dr. Thomas Christopher, Carlisle ‘Pyiko’ Williams, Marlon Fergus, Arvid Ramdeane, Dave Williams, and Ian Juman from the Seismic Research Centre (SRC).
The two-week course, which included both practical and theoretical components, was conducted by Elliott Corke, a certified trainer from Global Drone Training. This comprehensive training program covered various aspects of drone operation, preparing the participants for the critical task of monitoring volcanic activity.
The newly certified Remote Pilots are expected to significantly enhance the MVO’s capabilities in volcano monitoring. The integration of drone technology will improve monitoring and research efforts, providing valuable insights into volcanic activity and helping to ensure the safety of the surrounding communities.
This achievement underscores the MVO’s commitment to leveraging advanced technologies in its research and monitoring efforts.
