MVO Welcomes 2023 C.O.R.E Intern

Last week the MVO welcomed Julie Mc Vorran one of UWI-SRC’s 2023 C.O.R.E. interns. She is being supervised by our Hazards and Risks Specialist Dr Jose Marrero and will be attached to the Observatory for 3 weeks.

The University of the West Indies (UWI) Seismic Research Centre (SRC) summer CORE (Creating Opportunity from Research Experience) internship programmeis committed committed  to identifying future geoscientists and communications practitioners. The Centre’s programme, an eight-week internship for undergraduate and postgraduate students interested in pursuing careers in geosciences and related fields.

CORE interns work closely with SRC staff on current research projects in volcanology, seismology, geology, software engineering, physics, mathematics, or public awareness and education. Interns receive a stipend, and take part in career-enhancing field experiences, lab experiments and research exposure, which are designed to complement formal classroom instruction.

The CORE programme was launched in 2009.  This year, projects are in the areas of Education and Outreach and Volcanology.
