MVO to expand in-situ fumarole temperature monitoring
The MVO recently acquired additional temperature loggers and probes to expand its in-situ monitoring of low-temperature (<100 °C) fumaroles and other thermal features close to the lava dome.
The new data loggers will permit up to 5 additional sites in total to be monitored. The data will provide crucial background information on the temperature trends of the fumaroles and other thermal areas, allowing MVO to identify any variations that may indicate a change in the state of the volcano.
The temperature probes will be encased in ceramic tubes to protect them from the highly corrosive environment.
