Montserrat Volcano Observatory school donation
As part of the Mountain Aglow project, Montserrat Volcano Observatory donated equipment to the three primary schools on Montserrat; Brades, Look Out and St Augustine. This is to support the Grade 5 & 6 students in designing material for their panels for the Mountain Aglow exhibit.
Equipment included: Sketch books, pens, pencils, craft material (glitter, pipe cleaners, beads, glue, paint etc.) and a digital camera to allow them to record interviews and take photos. These were dropped off to the schools on the 6th and 7th May, 2021.
MVO, alongside our partner the Montserrat Disaster Management Communication Agency aim to wrap-up the project at the end of the month, so follow us on social media for future updates.
The students will be using all the knowledge gained from speakers – which have included volcanologists, members of the DMCA, calypso singer Herman ‘Cupid’ Francis and Reuben Meade, who was chief minister at the start of the eruption – to design their panel for the Mountain Aglow exhibit.
The Mountain Aglow project documents the Soufrière Hills eruption, celebrates the experiences and creativity of the population and raises awareness of volcanic risks.
