Montserrat students visit Plymouth

As part of the Mountain Aglow junior project, MVO alongside their project partner Disaster Management Communication Agency (DMCA) ran a series of field trips with the grade 5 and 6 primary school students.

In total we had 118 students and 12 teachers accompany us to Plymouth and Montserrat Springs Hotel. For many students this was the first time they got to visit these sites and they thoroughly enjoyed learning about Montserrat’s volcanic history.

This is part of the ongoing Mountain Aglow project with Montserrat’s primary schools. The Mountain Aglow project documents the Soufriere Hills eruption, celebrates the experiences and creativity of the population and raises awareness of volcanic risks.

The purpose of this field trip is for the students to get an understanding of the impacts the Soufriere Hills volcano had on the people and landscape of Montserrat.
