Activity at the Soufrière Hills Volcano is at a low level.

The seismic network recorded eight rockfalls and four volcano-tectonic events this week.

The average sulphur dioxide measurement over two days this week was 166 tons per day with a maximum of 229 and a minimum of 103 tons per day. These values are however likely to be underestimates as the gas monitoring network is still not fully functional following the lightning strike. In addition unusual wind directions associated with Tropical Storm Ophelia prevented gas measurements for most of this week.

Brief glimpses of the dome following heavy rain showed no major changes, although strong steaming was evident at times this week after the rain.

Despite the low level of activity, sporadic pyroclastic flows can occur without any warning. The Hazard Level is 3. There is no access to the terrestrial Zone C and only daytime transit access to shipping through the maritime extension of the zone.
