Plymouth is in the exclusion zone on the western flanks of the volcano. At present, pyroclastic flows generated by dome collapse and explosions can occur to the west with little or no warning. These flows are fast moving phenomena and can impact lower Plymouth in a matter of minutes giving one little time to respond.
