An increase in activity will only affect some areas of Montserrat. If an evacuation of these areas is required, it will be signalled by an alarm. People will then travel northwards out of these areas. However, you should not attempt to cross the Belham River if there is running water in it - in such circumstances, seek advice from local residents. If you are outside the affected areas, you should never try to drive into or towards them as you will impede the evacuation.

You should use a cloth or handkerchief as a temporary mask if there is ashfall. You should also avoid driving during ashfall, especially if there is rain as well.

Information on the activity will be broadcast on Radio Montserrat (ZJB, 95.5/88.3FM). Visit the Preparedness section for details on what to do before, during and after an eruption.
