Oh volcano, I love to see you glow

But please, please, do not blow

When you’re awake, all that hot stuff

From your vents will ooze

So volcano, neighbour dear

Go and take a snooze !

And when you’re just about to sneeze

I get down on my knees

And pray the spray from deep within

Of hot volcanic trash

Can be recycled, and be as useful

As volcanic ash.

Whenever we see you quaking

We look out for much shaking

As lava hardens on top of lava

And packing mounts on packing

And we see the mounting layers

As a lava dome is stacking

A volcano is my pet

A pet which does no joking

For ash and gases and pyro-flows

Will leave us gasping and choking.

It’s too close – I cannot send curses,

I only pray for my volcano’s mercies.
